Facebook launches CatchUp

Facebook launches CatchUp

Facebook has quietly launched a new social app in the Google Play Store, CatchUp. The app is not yet available in the Benelux.

Facebook's NPE Team (New Product Experimentation), a department within Facebook that makes experimental apps for the general public, has launched the app CatchUp. That reports GratisDatingTips.nl. NPE Team is also responsible for Facebook Tuned. That's an app that helps couples in times of corona keep in touch by listening to music together and sending photos, memos, voice messages and cards. Both CatchUp and Tuned are apps that you can download separately from the Facebook app. Both apps cannot yet be used in the Benelux.

How does it work?

CatchUp is broadly similar to Tuned, because this app is also intended to keep in touch with your friends and family, but does not focus on couples. The app wants to make it as easy as possible to keep in touch with your loved ones.

For example, you can set your status in the app to let people know when you are available to talk and see if your friends are available on CatchUp. You can also create groups for friends, family and mutual contacts and determine who can participate in your one-to-one group conversations via the privacy settings. Your online status is automatically updated when you are connected to Bluetooth.

availabilty

CatchUp is an experimental app, so its survival is not certain. If it catches on, Facebook can choose to keep the app and eventually roll it out or integrate parts of it into the Facebook or Messenger app. It is also possible that the app disappears silently again.

Meet Facebook Shops soon

Meet Facebook Shops soon

Facebook was always about connecting you to what you like. That means friends and family, but also products, brands and companies. For years, people have used our apps to buy and sell things from the early days of posting a photo of a bike labeled 'for sale', to selling your coffee table in Marketplace and now shopping styles of your favorite brands and influencers on Instagram. It was the people who used our apps that envisioned social commerce. We help them to realize it.

We want to give people a place to experience the pleasure of shopping versus the chore of buying. And we want to help small businesses adapt and make it easier for people to discover and buy things they love.

At this time struggle a lot of small companies and with the closure of stores, more companies want to bring their businesses online. Our goal is to make shopping seamless and enable everyone from a small business owner to a global brand to use our apps to connect with customers. That's why we launch Facebook Shops and invest in features in all of our apps that inspire people to shop and make buying and selling online easier.

Introducing Facebook Shops

Facebook Shops make it easy for businesses to set up a single online store that customers can access on both Facebook and Instagram. Creating a Facebook store is free and easy. Companies can choose the products they want to display from their catalog and then customize the look and feel of their store with a cover image and accent colors that show their brand. This means that any salesperson, regardless of size or budget, can bring their business online and connect with customers when and where it suits them.

People can find Facebook Shops on a company's Facebook page or Instagram profile, or discover them through stories or ads. From there, you can browse the entire collection, store products you are interested in and place an order - either on the company's website or without leaving the app if the company to pay in the US.

View message

And just like when you're in a brick-and-mortar store and need to ask someone for help, Facebook Shops lets you message a company via WhatsApp, Messenger, or Instagram Direct to ask questions, get support, track deliveries, and more. And in the future, you can view a company's store and make purchases via chat in WhatsApp, Messenger or Instagram Direct.

We are starting to roll out Facebook Shops today and it will be more widely available in the coming months. You can learn more about how we built Shops with privacy in mind here .

Instagram Shop: a new place to discover products and brands

This summer, starting in the US, we're introducing Instagram Shop, a new way to discover and buy products you love in Instagram Explore. You can be inspired by collections of @shop , browse selections from your favorite brands and makers, filter by categories like beauty and home, and buy the looks you love all in one place. And later this year we will add a new shopping tab in the navigation bar so you can go to Instagram Shop with one tap.

We are also investing in features in our apps like Instagram Shop, Live Shopping and more that will integrate with Facebook Shops to help customers discover products they are interested in and make buying easier.

Live Shopping functions

People have been using live video on our apps to showcase products for years, from shoe stores announcing new sneakers to beauty influencers trying different lipsticks. We are now making it easier to search for products in real time. Soon, sellers, brands and creators will be able to tag products from their Facebook store or catalog before going live and those products will be displayed at the bottom of the video so people can easily tap to learn and buy more. We are starting to test this with companies on Facebook and Instagram and we will roll it out more widely in the coming months.

Link loyalty programs to your Facebook account

We are also testing ways to make it easier to earn rewards from companies you love by enabling you to link your loyalty programs, such as the points program at your local cafe, to your Facebook account. You can easily see and track your points and rewards. And we're exploring ways to help small businesses create, manage and display a loyalty program at Facebook Shops.

Working with partners

We also work more closely with partners such as Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, ChannelAdvisor, CedCommerce, Cafe24, Tienda Nube and Feedonomics to give small businesses the support they need. These organizations provide powerful tools to help entrepreneurs start and run their businesses and go online. Now they will help small businesses build and expand their Facebook Shops and use our other trading tools.
We hope these tools can help alleviate some of the pressures small businesses are currently experiencing and help businesses of all sizes prepare for the future.

Facebook will soon launch Facebook Avatars

Facebook will soon launch Facebook Avatars

Facebook has launched their own Facebook Avatars in the United States. In a society where we all social distance, you don't have to forget what your friends look like ...

We already know that…

Facebook now lets you make your own Facebook Avatar just like Snapchat's 'Bitmoji', your clothing is also fully customizable. Then you can send your own Facebook Avatar with different expressions as stickers in WhatsApp or other messaging apps. "There are so many ways to use your own avatar, in comments, stories, messenger ..." wrote Facebook's Fidji Simo in a post last Wednesday. There are a lot of emotions to show with the new avatars, which is something different than a boring Emoji.

Snapchat Bitmoji like feature Facebook Avatars launches in Europe

Already available

The avatars themselves have been in use for several months in a number of European countries and in Australia, especially for the American launch, they are adding a number of new hairstyles and outfits.

Check

The avatar update will also be coming to the Netherlands soon. If you want to check if you can already use it, you have to press the smiley next to your text when you write a comment. It is not possible to create the avatar in the new web version of Facebook. Apple's Memoji was one of the selling points at the launch of the iPhone X, these dolls seem more realistic than Facebook's avatars.

People who have an Apple phone can also create their own avatar right now and use it as stickers on WhatsApp. Check the Apple website how to do this.

WhatsApp gets support for Messenger Rooms

WhatsApp gets support for Messenger Rooms

If we can believe the latest rumors, WhatsApp for web will soon receive support for Facebook Messenger Rooms. In fact, some users already have access to the function, which shows that parent company Facebook is therefore working on an integration.

It is not surprising that Facebook announced the release of Messenger Rooms. This is an alternative to Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet and other video conferencing applications. The website WABetaInfo says that the function is currently being tested with a few users, in the desktop version of WhatsApp. Users with web version 2.2019.6 could also start with the integration soon. However, when the position arrives for everyone, that is unclear at the time of writing.

Link WhatsApp for web to Messenger Rooms

With the integration of Messenger Rooms and the popularity of WhatsApp, the integration can allow more people than ever to access the video conferencing service.
The function could be used very quickly by many people, because many users of the messaging service also use the web version. You do not need to install an extra program for this. You simply go to web.whatsapp.com, log in using the QR code and immediately continue where you left off.

Facebook Messenger Rooms

It is not surprising that this integration of various Facebook products is now emerging. When Messenger Rooms launched in late April, CEO Mark Zuckerberg already announced that video conferencing options would be available on various services. Think of Facebook, Instagram and the video call display Portal, but also of course WhatsApp. The idea is that the experience of the functions within each service is the same, so it will not be possible to decide which service you choose at that time.

The desktop version of WhatsApp will get a shortcut to Messenger Rooms later. With the button you create a room for the conference. You also get the choice whether you want to open the Room within WhatsApp or Messenger Rooms.

Facebook is rolling out new desktop design worldwide

Facebook is rolling out new desktop design worldwide

Facebook will roll out the new design of its desktop version worldwide, the company announced Friday. The new design includes a dark mode and should make navigating the website easier.

Face lift

With the new design, the Facebook website gets a whole new layout. A navigation bar has been added at the top where users can navigate directly to different parts of the website, such as Groups and Marketplace. This makes it easier to navigate the site, according to Facebook.

Dark Mode

The new website also has a built-in dark mode. Users can switch it on and off manually. Dark mode should ensure that the messaging service offers a better user experience in low light conditions, for example in the evening. In addition, the new desktop version of Facebook must be faster than the old one. For example, Facebook says that the homepage loads faster and that the switching between different pages is smoother.

News Feed Dark Mode

The new design had already been available to test for a number of Facebook users in recent weeks. Facebook is now taking the new website out of the test phase and will roll out the design worldwide in the coming weeks.
